Once inside, please feel free to look around. You can expect a casual, warm, and inviting atmosphere. Whether you want to relax in the Commons, check your children in, or head to service, our friendly greeters and signage will direct you. If you have questions, please stop by the Connection Center.
- In 1972, the Lubbock Baptist Association set aside 3 acres of land for the purpose of establishing a mission outreach to the community in the south Lubbock area.
- August 1974: Rev. Don Worthington accepted the call to pastor and lead the developmental work for this mission.
- September 29, 1974: The first worship service of South Indiana Avenue Baptist Church was held at the South Park Inn with 23 people in attendance.
- March 30, 1986: Indiana Avenue Baptist Church had over 250 members and constituted as a church, no longer a mission of or supported by First Baptist Church. The pastor at this time was Rick Elmore, who served the church until 1987.
- 1988: Rev. Jon Randles became the pastor. During the next 5 years God blessed the church with phenomenal growth, growing from 352 to over 3400 members. During this time, a 900-seat sanctuary was built.
- November 1993: This vision began to take shape, as the church purchased 28 acres of land located at 98th Street and Indiana Avenue for this purpose.
- January 1994: Rev. Jim Gerlt became pastor.
- June 1994: The church voted to purchase another 28 acres of land at 98th and Indiana Ave. IABC committed to build a 3-phase facility at this location.
- July 1999: Construction on the Family Life Center was completed and IABC adult Sunday School began meeting at the FLC.
- July 2005: Dr. Steve McMeans began his pastorate at Indiana Avenue Baptist Church.
- Spring 2006: The debt on 98th and Indiana campus was paid in full and the church was debt free.
- October 2009: Construction was completed on the Children’s Building.
- 2018: Youth Classrooms, Commons, and Offices were built at 9507 Indiana Ave.
